5 Reasons to Go Snowmobiling
This just in: snowmobiling is my new favorite outdoor sport. My husband is probably laughing as he reads this because I’ve told nearly everyone we know in the last week and now I’m announcing it here on my blog. (But isn’t that why I have a blog?)
If you haven’t tried snowmobiling yet, you must! It’s an easy and thrilling way to explore beautiful countryside you wouldn’t see otherwise.
Here is why…
- It’s Easy – All you do is sit down and hit the gas pedal. No other effort required! The outfitter provides all of the equipment down to the helmet and boots, and all you do is follow his lead through the forest.
- It’s Thrilling – Zooming along ridgelines and weaving through pine trees is an awesome adrenaline rush. If you’ve ever sped cross country on a four-wheeler, you know this kind of thrill. Plus it’s a safe rush, as long as you follow the guide and don’t go rogue. Or speed around a corner and have the back of your snowmobile hanging off a cliff. Not that I know anything about that! Really mom, it was safe.
- You see pristine wilderness with minimal effort – I’m all about minimal effort. Who’s with me?! Snowmobiling enables you to visit remote reaches of the wilderness without having to hike for days. Other than you, no one but the occasional elk or fox visits these areas and it is simply beautiful. Trees laden with fresh snow and fields of fluffy powder make it a winter wonderland.
- It’ Comfortable – Snowmobile seats are cushy and the handles are heated, so the ride is pretty nice. (I’ll take that over hiking with a 40+ lb pack any day.)
- It’s Quick – You see a lot of countryside but it only takes about three hours, so there’s plenty of time left to ski, sit by the fire, or shop in town.
My first snowmobiling adventure was on a recent girls trip to Telluride, and we had an absolute blast. Telluride had just gotten 26″ of fresh snowfall and every time the sun peeked through the trees, the powder lit up like glitter.
You can’t see our smiles but they are there!
