Roundup

Whit’s Wilderness Roundup No. 1

An assortment of recent articles, anecdotes, and finds from around the internet.

I hope everyone has fun plans for the Fourth of July! We are going to be doing manual labor on the farm (because nothing says “holiday” like manual labor) and soaking in a friend’s pool. Trooper will likely be hiding from fireworks in a corner.

Now, for some the roundup…As I peruse the internet and the outdoor world, I regularly find things I want to share with y’all but that don’t necessarily deserve their own post. Thus I feel inspired to do a regular “round up” of all of these finds, from articles to photos to upcoming events to keep you very much in the loop. This will be a fun and easy read and will come along every now and then, whenever the mood strikes or my list gets too long.

Enjoy!

How to Fillet the Top 5 Best Tasting Fish…complete with easy to read instruction and videos.

A Hip Adult Coloring Book of the National Parks from Anderson Design Group in Nashville, Tennessee. Have you all noticed the adult coloring book trend? I am seeing it more and more. Are we all just looking for ways to avoid our jobs? Coincidentally, one of my favorite coloring books as a child was of Rocky Mountain National Park, so I just may have to try this one now that I’m older, and much wiser.

A Tent That Looks Like a Watermelon Slice (because…why not)

Cute and “Campy” Coffee Mug from Target…would look even cuter with a monogram label on it, would it not?

Dai Due’s Gulf Kayak Fishing and Cooking School June 24-27, 2016 These fishing and cooking schools have been on my wish list for quite some time and seem to be as perfect of an experience as one can get fishing on the coast.

Just a teaser…“Each day’s class will focus on myriad techniques for cooking Gulf fish, from frying, poaching, stock-making and smoking to grilling, soups and stews (gumbo, etouffee, fish soup) and more. After class, there is some down time in which guests may fish in the lighted canal off the back porch, nap, or have a drink on the patio, or all of the above. A huge dinner follows, featuring many of the items we prepared in class that afternoon. Crabbing, cast-netting and general rigging lessons are also available at this time.”

…sign me up.

A quick but interesting read: In James Franco’s own words: why he loves Yosemite National Park.

In case you haven’t heard, the National Park System is celebrating its 100th birthday this August so folks are coming out of the woodwork to show their support.

And that’s a wrap. God Bless our beautiful country we are blessed to call home. Get outside and celebrate it!
