What Fall is Like in Prague

I’ve spent the past three days in Prague, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and Fall is in full swing.

The trees are ablaze in orange, red, and yellow hues, and they are especially resplendent in the park around Vila Grebovka called Havlíčkovy sady. As a Texan who doesn’t get much of an autumn season, I am appreciating every single moment of this.

Located in the Southeast part of the Prague, the Villa is a former private home and vineyard, now headquarters of an international policy institute.

Prague is very hilly, and the park and villa cover a hillside with sweeping views towards the heart of the city.

Below the villa are grapevines, which make for a beautiful sight in any time of day but especially during Prague’s traditional morning fog.

Pine trees, crisp autumn air, two cute restaurants with spectacular patios, a charming playground made entirely of wood, and lots of linking pathways are just a few things to look forward to.

The park seemed to be a hot spot for locals, and I witnessed three different photo shoots taking place while we were there–a bride and groom, a baby and his parents, and a pregnant woman and her husband. Everyone out enjoying the weather and Fall colors.

I’m staying at this Vila with women involved in the George W. Bush Institute Women’s Initiative Fellowship. Every morning, Insaf, the Tunisian fellow I mentor, and I have taken a walk around the grounds to stretch our legs and enjoy the crisp autumn air.

The first morning we found this unique grotto.

This park has a little bit of everything.

Insaf and I both work on environmental initiatives and we have loved the chance to get out in nature right in the middle of the city.

Another one of my favorite ways to see the city and experience the outdoors is by paddleboating the Vltava River, which cuts right through the heart of the city. A must-do!
